Celebrating the life of
Luis Nestor Venegas
May 06, 1939 - February 10, 2024
Lou Venegas was smart, kind and funny. He was a loving husband, involved father and doting grandfather. He died peacefully at Hospice Savannah on February 10, 2024 at the age of 84.
Lou loved life, loved his friends and family and was successful at everything he put his energy towards. After an early childhood in Puerto Rico he moved to New York City where he was scouted by the NY (baseball) Giants and proudly served in the Army. He thrived in his chosen field of technology, founding several innovative companies following early retirement from a successful career at IBM.
He married the love of his life, Maddy Ginsberg, in 1979 and they treasured their time together. He leaves behind his loving family, sons David (Amy) and Jonathan (Rachel), grandchildren Jared, Jeremy and Devyn, brothers William and Fernando, and the very special angel who cared for him as his disease progressed, Chelsea Heier Wester. His presence will be missed but his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him.
There will be no formal service, but if you wish please honor his memory with a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, michaeljfox.org.
Fernando writes: "at age 17, I stole a strawberry shortcake (in NYC) and it was Lou who bailed me out and showed me a different path." Karen finishes....without this we would never have been married and I would not have been blessed with the most delightful, angelic brother-in-law there could be. Lou, together with Maddy, showered us with spent time, financial support, and wonderful family. We have been forever blessed and will hold Lou -- and Maddy -- in our hearts forever.

I was very saddened to hear of Luis’ passing. We were very much in each other’s lives a million years ago. We were aquiinted through mutual friends when he lived in Washington Heights and he later moved into my building in Yonkers. We also both ended up at IBM. Some of my most cherished memories of that time in my life include Luis. My deepest Condolences to. His family, he was a really good guy.
